Once a small commercial fishing village and oil company serving port has grown in popularity with sportsmen nationwide. The abundance of shallow fishing water is the fishermen's dream. The remote surroundings that are now the same as they were 50 years ago has made Port Mansfield famous for those fishermen who wade and drift the shallow flats for wall hanger redfish and trout, to the deep sea fishermen who venture out into the gulf for the monster fish that have dominated the record books for the last 25 years. The Port Mansfield area is known as an outstanding place for both fish and game. Located right in the middle of the precious Laguna Madre some 45 minutes drive from Harlingen, 4 ½ hour drive from San Antonio, and some 5 ½ hour drive from Houston, has made more and more sportsmen realize that when coming to Port Mansfield, you are leaving the traffic lights and cluttered highways behind you. Bordered by what used to be the King Ranch, Port Mansfield is today much the way it was 50 years ago. The diverse habitats support an amazing variety of resident and migratory species. The sheer numbers are enough to get any sportsmen's attention. Abundant natural surroundings, thousands of square miles of sandy flats, and only 9 miles from the Port Mansfield jetties, our only entrance to the beautiful Gulf of Mexico. If driving, take Hwy. 186 due east of Raymondville, Texas, 23 miles to where the road stops. If flying, Port Mansfield has a 3200' paved, lighted runway with fuel, located within walking distance of Lodging, Restaurants, Grocery Stores, Boat Storage, Public Boat Ramps, RV Parks, Clubs, and numerous Fishing and Hunting Guides that are ready to show you what you have only read about.
